On Feb. 4 the Lovelock City Council held a meeting where members discussed several financial, infrastructure, and planning matters, including delinquent sewer accounts, proposed updates to building codes, and multiple property boundary adjustments.
The council discussed delinquent sewer service accounts, specifically one on Western Avenue. Because the property owner is deceased, responsibility for the bill was unclear. Options for handling the balance included shutting off service and writing off the amount owed. No action was taken, but staff will place a write off request on a future agenda.
Council members reviewed an ordinance consolidating Chapter 23 and Chapter 27 into a single building code chapter. The ordinance would adopt current model codes, establish a unified permitting process, and clarify inspection, enforcement, and safety standards. A motion was approved to introduce the ordinance and move forward toward a public hearing.
The council also discussed changing parcel boundaries. A motion passed to merge two parcels, APN 001-162-09 and 001-162-10, into one lot. The council also approved adjusting a boundary line to include a small adjacent parcel for driveway access at 140 Ash Drive. Along with these changes, the council approved a revised acreage map that combined two lots where a building straddled the property line at 395 Main Street.
Next, a Memorandum of Understanding between the city and Pershing General Hospital was discussed. Under the agreement, Pershing General Hospital will pay $9,185 to repair the city’s forklift in exchange for the city hauling its recycling. The agreement will last three years. A motion was passed to approve the MOU.
In other business, council members approved the proposed tax rate of .5624% for fiscal year 2026-27. Staff updates included pickleball court resurfacing plans and contractor estimates, ongoing parks and infrastructure projects, and an Amherst project beginning construction. Staff also noted an upcoming regional meeting, March summit planning, and possible future ordinances.
