Pershing County Middle School has once again been recognized at the highest level for its commitment to student success, earning the Diamond Award for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) implementation for the fifth consecutive year.
Principal Shea Murphy announced the honor last week, praising both staff and students for their continued dedication.
“So proud of the staff and students at PCMS,” Murphy said. “It’s not always perfect, but it is real — and that is the way we like it. Diamond Award for PBIS implementation… five years and counting.”
The Diamond Award is the top recognition given by the Nevada PBIS Technical Assistance Center, honoring schools that demonstrate exemplary, consistent implementation of PBIS practices.
PBIS is part of a broader framework known as a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), which focuses on creating positive, proactive, and inclusive school environments. Rather than relying solely on discipline after problems occur, PBIS emphasizes setting clear expectations, teaching positive behavior, and supporting students’ academic, behavioral, and mental health needs before challenges arise.
Schools across Nevada that implement PBIS with fidelity have seen improved academic performance, reduced disciplinary issues, stronger student well-being, and higher overall school satisfaction.
Pershing County Middle School is one of a select group of Nevada schools to receive Diamond-level recognition, placing it among the state’s top-performing campuses in PBIS implementation.
The achievement also reflects ongoing efforts within the Pershing County School District to support students through evidence-based practices and data-driven decision-making.
School leaders say the recognition belongs to the entire PCMS community, students, teachers, support staff, and families, whose daily efforts continue to shape a positive learning environment in Pershing County.
