On May 3, 2026, approximately 40 members of Nevada Extension’s Pershing County 4-H competed in the 82nd annual Pershing County Livestock Show and Sale at the Pershing County 4-H Building.
For five to seven months, and often longer for breeding animals, the youth selected, raised, fed and groomed market or breeding animals. Their work produced quality meat animals and animals that met breed standards, often at a level superior to commercial operations.
Members were also required to maintain a record book and give an educational presentation about their species, helping them gain career-ready skills.
This year’s show had a “party animal” theme, and members hoped local buyers and supporters felt like they were part of the celebration and enjoyed the day.
The contributions from supporters will make a lasting difference in the growth of these young people. The projects gave them experiences they will carry into adulthood, including a basic understanding of food production. Many members will use the money earned from their projects to start a business or help pay for future education.
