The Pershing County Mustangs football program wrapped up its summer fundraising season with a competitive flag football tournament that drew nine teams, approximately 80 players and local fans to the field.
The tournament featured two divisions based on skill level, with close games throughout the event.
The Bubble Guppies, a team made up of former and current Mustangs players, captured the A Division championship. PMFAGT of Reno won the B Division title.
Coach Mike Brooks said the A Division championship game provided one of the tournament’s most memorable moments when Denzel Zaldivar returned an interception for the game-winning touchdown.
“Thank you to everyone who came out to play and helped us raise money for our season,” the coach said in a Facebook post following the tournament.
Although the football fundraising season has come to an end, the Mustangs will continue preparing for the upcoming football season by hosting scrimmages this week.
