Margaret was born March 13, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Frances and William Douglas Newsom.
She spent her early childhood in Oklahoma before moving with her large family to California in search of work. During those difficult years, the family worked picking fruit in Northern California. Margaret attended school in Gridley, California, before spending a summer in Lovelock with her sister and brother-in-law, where she met Frank Henry Starr, the love of her life.
Margaret and Frank were married in Lovelock in 1954. Together they built a family and a lifetime of cherished memories. Family was always at the center of Margaret’s world, and she found her greatest joy in the company of those she loved.
Above all else, Margaret cherished her family. She loved gathering loved ones around her table and creating traditions that brought people together. One of her greatest joys was sharing morning coffee at her home, surrounded by family, laughter and conversation. She was known for her spirited sense of humor and quick wit. Her warmth, generosity and laughter will be remembered by all who knew her.
Margaret’s legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply and the countless lives she touched through her love, friendship and home-cooked meals.
A talented cook and dedicated worker, Margaret shared her passions throughout her career. Alongside her husband, Frank, she owned and operated The Sandwich Shop in Lovelock. She later worked as a cook for 18 years at Sturgeons and also served for several years as store manager at Two Stiffs. In every role, she was known for her strong work ethic and unwavering commitment.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, William Douglas and Frances Newsom; her beloved husband, Frank Starr; her son, Jim Starr; her granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Starr and Grace Starr; and 13 of her 14 siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Delores David; her daughters, Gala Fecht and husband David Fecht, and Julie Terry and husband Shaun Terry; her daughter-in-law, Kim Starr; her grandchildren, Lisa Clark and Mike Gillis, Jeremy and Bethany Starr, Deanna Starr Hernandez, Kathryn and Matthew De Young, Russell and Jennifer Fecht, Steven and Alison Fecht, Shari and Zac Widmer, Erika and Trent Milward, and Matthew and Meghan Terry; her great-grandchildren, Ryann, Jared and Sydney Jensen, Tegon, Nolan and Ava Starr, Tomas, Kayla, Wyatt, Alexandra and Cassandra Hernandez, Marcus, Troy and Chloe Sanders, Timothy and Conner Fecht, Autumn Fecht, Reagan and Cooper Widmer, Evie Milward, and Baby Terry on the way; and her great-great-grandchildren, Michael and Blake Jensen, and Amina Sanders.
