Lovelock Elementary School Students Shine in The Jungle Book

Lovelock Elementary School was filled with excitement last weekend as students took the stage for a full-scale production of The Jungle Book, presented in partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT). The performance marked a week of intensive rehearsals, creativity, and collaboration as students brought the classic Rudyard Kipling tale to life.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre, an internationally recognized touring company, arrived in Lovelock earlier in the week and cast more than 50 LES students in roles ranging from jungle animals to villagers, wolves, and iconic characters such as Mowgli, Baloo, and Shere Khan. In just five days, students learned their lines, music, choreography, and staging under the direction of two MCT Tour Actor/Directors Gianna Mangum and JJ Binion.

With a blend of humor, music, and heartfelt storytelling, LES students transformed the stage into a vibrant jungle scene. From dancing monkeys to disciplined wolves, students showcased dedication, confidence, and teamwork—hallmarks of the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s mission to develop life skills through the performing arts.

In addition to the cast, student assistants took on roles such as stage management and backstage support, gaining valuable experience in theater production behind the scenes.

“Our students amazed us with their energy and courage,” said Amanda Gonzales who helped assist the production. “Watching them bring a show together in such a short amount of time is inspiring.”

Since 1970, the Missoula Children’s Theatre has traveled the globe providing communities with weeklong residency programs that culminate in a fully staged musical. Lovelock Elementary School is proud to continue this tradition, giving students the opportunity to build confidence, creativity, responsibility, and a love for the arts.
