Books, Mustaches and Pajamas: Lovelock Elementary Celebrates Reading Week

Books, Mustaches and Pajamas: Lovelock Elementary Celebrates Reading Week

Students at Lovelock Elementary School spent the first week of March celebrating the joy of books with a series of fun activities during Nevada Reading Week and Read Across America, held March 2–5.

The week was filled with themed spirit days designed to make reading exciting and memorable for students.

Monday kicked things off with Mustache Day, where students showed up with playful mustaches while diving into their favorite stories.

On Tuesday, the theme shifted to “Future Me,” with students dressing up as the careers they hope to pursue someday from doctors and teachers to firefighters and athletes, a reminder that reading can help open doors to any future.

Wednesday brought School Spirit Day, with students proudly wearing Lovelock Elementary colors.

The week wrapped up Thursday with a cozy Pajama Day, where students came to school in their pajamas and brought along their favorite stuffed animals.

Throughout the week, students could earn fun reading prizes, including bookmarks, reading pointers to help keep their place in books, and even book-shaped fidget toys.

One of the highlights of the celebration was a special school assembly featuring “Pirates of Efficiency,” performed by Bright Star Theater and sponsored by NV Energy. The lively performance entertained students while sharing an important message about the value of reading.

After the assembly, students participated in a special “Drop Everything and Read” time.

Classrooms spilled into the hallways, where students lined the halls throughout the school and spent time reading aloud to their stuffed animals.

The celebration is part of Lovelock Elementary’s ongoing effort to build a strong culture of literacy among students.

The school is also hosting a Read-A-Thon fundraiser from Feb. 27 through March 10, encouraging students to spend time reading while raising funds for literacy programs at the school.

Money raised will help purchase new books for classrooms and the school library, stock the school’s book vending machine, and support additional reading activities for students.

With a week full of imagination, costumes and stories, Lovelock Elementary students proved that sometimes the best adventures begin with a good book.
