That was how Rich Wagner, health and safety manager for the Coeur Rochester, opened the ribbon cutting last week for the new Coeur Mining Wellness Center at 585 Cornell Street.
“In mining, we begin every day with a safety share. It reminds us why we’re here,” Wagner said. “But statistically, the most serious threats to our workforce aren’t traumatic injuries. They’re heart disease, strokes, diabetes, undiagnosed high blood pressure.”
The new clinic, powered by PMR Healthcare, is designed to address exactly that.
The Coeur Mining Wellness Center will provide primary and preventive care services for Rochester employees and their dependents. Company leaders say the goal is early detection, chronic illness management, mental health support, and easier access to medical professionals who understand the demands of heavy industry work.
“Safety is not a department. It is a culture,” Wagner said. “This clinic stands as a place dedicated to protecting the most valuable resource we have — our people.”
General Manager Tim Dimmick said the facility represents a significant investment in workforce wellbeing and reflects Coeur’s long-term commitment to Pershing County.
“We are so happy to be able to provide this new benefit to our employees and their dependents,” Dimmick said. “Primary care plays a critical role in overall patient health and disease prevention. It just made sense for Coeur and Rochester to bring this benefit closer to home.”
The clinic was made possible through coordination between Coeur’s corporate leadership and local management. Dimmick credited Chief Human Resources Officer Emily Scoutin, Senior Director of Compensation and Benefits David Bell, Regional HR Director Karen McKechnie, and local leadership for helping bring the project to fruition.
