Lady Mustangs Bring Home Conference Title, Earn Postseason Honors

The 2025 season may have ended sooner than the Lady Mustangs hoped, but it will go down as one of the most successful in recent program history.

Pershing County finished the year with 21 wins and captured the 2A Northern regular season conference championship, the program’s first in 12 years.

Head coach Lee Houston said the team has plenty to be proud of.

“So proud of these girls and what they have accomplished,” Houston said. “The season ended earlier than expected, but we’ll keep our heads held high and be proud of all the work that was put in.”

The Mustangs’ success did not go unnoticed across the league.

Senior Riley Harvey was named 2A Northern Player of the Year after a dominant season on both ends of the floor. Kyra Cerini and Khloe Montes earned First Team All-Conference honors, while Mia Canchola, Arya Garland and Kenya Vaughan were selected to the Second Team. Anika Happy received Honorable Mention recognition.

Cerini also made her mark statewide, leading all of Nevada in charges taken this season with 20, a statistic that speaks to her defensive toughness and willingness to sacrifice for her team.

In addition to their postseason honors, Harvey, Happy and Cerini earned Iron Man Awards for not missing a single practice during all four years of high school, a testament to consistency and commitment that coaches value just as much as points on the scoreboard.

The Mustangs combined talent with discipline this season, building a balanced team that competed night in and night out. While the playoff run didn’t end the way they hoped, the foundation laid this year signals continued strength for the program.

After a 12-year wait, the Lady Mustangs are conference champions once again and Pershing County has a team worth watching heading into the future.
