Mustangs’ Seven-Game Streak Snapped at North Tahoe

Mustangs’ Seven-Game Streak Snapped at North Tahoe

The Pershing County Mustangs girls varsity basketball team saw a seven-game winning streak come to an end last week with a 47–43 road loss to the North Tahoe Lakers.

North Tahoe, coming off a loss to Pershing County the last time the teams met in February, answered with a determined effort on both ends of the floor. The Lakers controlled key stretches late, handing the Mustangs their first league loss of the season.

North Tahoe was led by Anna Hawley, who delivered a standout performance, shooting 58 percent from the field while finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Hawley has now shot at least 50 percent in three consecutive games dating back to last season. Hayden Gallery added a strong inside presence, narrowly missing a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

Pershing County fell to 8–2 overall and 3–1 in league play following the loss. Despite the setback, the Mustangs remain firmly in the league hunt after a strong early-season run.

North Tahoe improved to 3–6 overall, winning three of its last four games and continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.

Pershing County will look to regroup quickly as it heads into tournament play, scheduled to face Sutter on Dec. 29. North Tahoe has already played its next contest against Oasis Academy, though a final score had not been posted at press time.
