Laughter and friendly competition filled the Pershing County Senior Center on Dec. 9 when Miss Gonsalves’ fourth-grade class stopped by to play bingo and enjoy lunch with local seniors.
The intergenerational gathering brought together students and longtime community members around bingo cards, shared tables, and plenty of conversation. For many, the afternoon stirred fond memories of earlier days.
“I remember playing bingo with my grandma, with Chester Hanson calling,” shared Pamela Vallandingham. “Those ladies would bring their best desserts, and the prizes were the desserts and quarters for blackout.”
Others echoed the joy of reconnecting. “Good to see old friends,” Barbara Tobin added.
Staff and visitors alike said the visit was a reminder of the value of simple moments, time spent together, stories shared, and traditions passed along. For the students, it was a chance to learn firsthand about community and connection; for the seniors, it was a welcome burst of youthful energy.
Sometimes, all it takes is a bingo card and a shared lunch to bridge generations.
