The Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) marked a moment of both continuity and growth recently, welcoming a new member to its ranks while officially installing its officers for 2026.
LVFD members were pleased to introduce Ashley Mills as the department’s newest volunteer firefighter, welcoming her into what many describe as a second family. Department leaders say new volunteers are essential to keeping emergency services strong in a rural community, and Mills’ decision to serve reflects a commitment shared by generations of Lovelock residents.
The department also announced the installation of its 2026 officer team, recognizing volunteers who have stepped forward to take on added leadership responsibilities:
• Chief: Richard Wagner
• First Assistant Chief: Dan Murphy
• Captain: Marti Nolan
• Second Trustee: Skyler Ovnicek
• Secretary: Nicole Reitz
• Safety Officer: Greg Reitz (not pictured)
Fire officials thanked each officer for their willingness to serve, noting that leadership within a volunteer department requires significant time, training, and personal sacrifice.
The Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department is made up entirely of community members who balance emergency response with full-time jobs and family responsibilities. Their work ranges from fire suppression and emergency medical response to training, equipment maintenance, and public safety support.
As the department looks ahead to the new year, LVFD leaders emphasized their appreciation for both new and longtime volunteers who continue to answer the call to keep Lovelock safe.
