The Pershing County Mustangs opened their wrestling season with authority, posting standout results at the Fallon Varsity Duals and turning in medal-winning performances at the Douglas tournament. Coaches said it was “a great start to the season,” even if the team managed to kick it off without snapping the traditional team photo.
At the Fallon Varsity Duals, several Mustangs put up impressive early records, leading the way was Israel Knight, who opened the season with a perfect 10–0 run. Jeffrey Elerick and Cade Liebsack followed close behind at 9–1 apiece, while Jaxson Happy and Anthony Gibson each went 8–1. James George added a strong 7–2 performance to round out the top varsity results. The momentum carried into Douglas, where JV boys and varsity girls combined for one of the program’s strongest multi-division showings in recent years. Pershing County brought home four first-place finishes, three seconds, and three thirds:
1st Place Finishers
• Braylen Tupa
• LaReina Ramirez
• Magdalena Ramirez
• Elaine De Los Reyes
2nd Place
• Mya Gauvin
• Marisa Ramirez
• Brayden B.
3rd Place
• Thomas Brooks
• Lorne Maita
• Rylie Burt
Coaches noted that many additional wrestlers saw mat time across both events and represented Pershing County with grit, improvement, and a lot of early-season heart.
With results like these, the Mustangs are already shaping up to be a team to watch.
