Parent Information Night Focuses on Drug Prevention

The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team (Tri-DENT) will host a Parent Information Night on Monday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Pershing County High School. The meeting is designed for parents and guardians only; students are not invited, according to the event flyer.

Tri-DENT is a regional task force made up of law enforcement from Pershing, Lander, and Humboldt counties, along with agents from the Nevada Division of Investigation. The team plans to brief families on current drug trends, including counterfeit pills, fentanyl, vaping devices, THC oils, and emerging substances law enforcement is encountering in rural Nevada.

The session will also address online rumors, local drug activity, and practical tools for parents such as how to talk with their children, what warning signs to watch for, and steps families can take to support prevention efforts.

Concerns around youth drug use surfaced again at the last Pershing County School Board meeting. Several parents and students have been urging officials to take more visible action, saying multiple overdoses have occurred on school grounds in recent months.

Organizers say the purpose of Monday’s forum is to give families accurate, current information directly from regional drug enforcement officers and to strengthen communication between parents, schools, and law enforcement.

The event is open to all parents and guardians in Pershing County.
