Lovelock Prepares for Wreaths Across America on December 13

Volunteers across Pershing County are preparing for this year’s Wreaths Across America ceremony, set for Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Big Meadow Cemetery. The annual event honors veterans laid to rest in local cemeteries by placing a holiday wreath at each gravesite.

This year’s national theme, “Keep Moving Forward,” comes from the final words spoken by U.S. Army Captain Joshua Byers, who was killed in action in Fallujah on July 23, 2003. Organizers say the theme reflects the values of service, respect, and perseverance that define the nationwide volunteer effort.

Lovelock’s participation is led by High Desert Grange Chapter 22, which has set one clear goal: to place a wreath on all 453 veterans’ graves in Pershing County. According to local coordinator Elizabeth Blondheim, the community is already “well over halfway there,” but additional sponsorships are still needed before the November 28 deadline.

“Sponsor a wreath today to honor a veteran here at home,” she said. “If you’d like to donate in person, please reach out, I’ll make sure it gets where it needs to go.”

Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit that coordinates ceremonies at more than 4,000 cemeteries each December. Locally, volunteers, veterans’ families, and community members gather to place wreaths, read the names of the fallen aloud, and reflect on the service of those who have worn the uniform.

Wreath sponsorships can be made online, and each $17 donation places one wreath at a local veteran’s gravesite. The donation deadline is November 28 to ensure timely delivery.

Organizers encourage community members to attend the ceremony, participate in wreath placement, and help ensure every Pershing County veteran is remembered.
