Founded by Pat Rowe nearly 30 years ago, the program was created to spread holiday cheer to elderly individuals who are homebound or living in the nursing home.
Pat believed that everyone, especially seniors, deserves to feel the warmth and magic of the holiday season. What started as a simple idea to brighten a few days has grown into a beloved community tradition that delivers gifts, smiles, and laughter each December.
Today, a dedicated team of local volunteers continues Pat’s legacy, working to make sure no senior feels forgotten during the holidays. “We’re doing our best to keep the magic alive,” said organizers Janice Rutherford, Jill Plimpton, Shauna Bake, Gabby Switzer, Virginia Rose, Sherry Coyle, and Bonnie Skoglie.
Donations to Santa for Seniors go directly toward purchasing gifts and ensuring that each qualifying senior feels valued and remembered. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) charity, making all contributions tax-deductible.
Community members who wish to help can send checks to Santa for Seniors, P.O. Box 639, Lovelock, NV 89419, or contact the group to arrange a donation via Zelle.
“No amount is too small,” Rutherford said. “Every contribution helps us share the joy of the season with those who have given so much to our community.”
For more information, or to learn how you can help, reach out to any of the volunteers listed above, and be part of keeping the holiday spirit shining bright for Lovelock’s seniors.
