If the Marzen House grounds look a little brighter, thank Penny Belanger. The longtime
Lovelock painter, who’s probably brushed two-thirds of the homes in town at one time or
another, just finished repainting the museum’s historic Firehouse.
Belanger, who serves as secretary on the Friends of the Marzen House board, teamed up with
local partner John at Big R, who donated the paint and additive for the project. The firefighters
chose the palette to match the downtown station. light gray with red trim, and Penny handled the
rest with her trademark, steady hand.
This isn’t her first lift for the museum. She was on the board during the gut-and-revamp of the
main building, jumps in “whenever she can,” and most recently helped start the clean-out of the
three-sided shed. Next up: building individual exhibition stalls in that space to showcase more of
Pershing County’s history.
“Penny’s painted half the town—and she still finds time to paint our history,” Bonnie Skoglie, a
current board member said with a grin.
