The Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department is throwing open its doors and the jukebox for a 1950s-
themed dinner and dance on Friday, Oct. 11, as part of its continuing effort to recruit new
members and celebrate the service of current volunteers.
The event will be held at the Lovelock firehouse, with the block closed to traffic for the evening.
Community members are encouraged to come dressed in their best poodle skirts, leather jackets,
and retro style.
Firefighter Marty Nolan told Pershing County Commissioners that the department, now at about
14 active members, has been “pretty busy” lately with local fires and storm responses — and
hopes the event will draw attention to the vital role of volunteer firefighting in Pershing County.
“We’ve been chasing lightning starts and keeping busy,” Jones said. “This dinner is a chance to
relax a little, meet the community, and hopefully bring a few new faces into the department.”
The Oct. 11 gathering will include dinner, music, and dancing on the blocked-off street in front
of the firehouse. Proceeds and donations will help support department operations and equipment
needs.
Residents interested in volunteering or learning more about the department can speak with
firefighters at the event or contact the City of Lovelock.
