The Pershing County Senior Center has posted its Van Out-of-Town Trip Schedule for
September: the van goes to Fallon on Thursday, Sept. 4 and Reno on Thursday, Sept. 18. Please
sign up at the front desk. When the van goes out of town, it takes riders to Walmart and to lunch
only. The Reno trip arrives by 10:00 a.m. and leaves by 2:00 p.m.—please schedule any
appointments within those hours. (Name, phone, address, and appointment time—if
applicable—are needed when you sign up.)
The Daily Van holds 12 passengers and runs Monday–Friday, 10:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Every third
Friday, the Center serves breakfast for seniors from 8–10 a.m., and staff can bring you for
breakfast and take you home afterward—just call the day before. The van also picks up local
seniors for lunch at the Center and returns them home, and it makes regular runs to Safeway and
Family Dollar on Mondays and Fridays (time and weather permitting). Quick trips to the post
office, bank, and Lovelock Pharmacy are offered as well. The van is lift-equipped with
wheelchair restraints. To schedule a pick-up, call 775-273-2291 before 10 a.m., Monday–Friday.
September is National Senior Center Month, and the Center invites the community to stop in for
lunch. The daily meal follows state nutrition guidelines: soup at 11:30 a.m., entrée at noon, plus
salad or fruit and dessert—then a rousing game of bingo. Two nutrition programs serve local
older adults: Homebound Meals (delivered to eligible residents) and Congregate Meals (served
in the dining room five days a week). Funding comes from the Division for Aging Services along
with generous community donations and contributions from senior clients. There’s a suggested
$4 donation for those 60+ (no one is turned away for inability to pay); guests under 60 are asked
to contribute $5 per meal.
You can also help through the Adopt a Senior program. A $4 gift buys one nutritious meal for a
local senior, or $60 sponsors 20 meals. Donations may be mailed to Pershing Co Senior Center,
PO Box 838, Lovelock, NV 89419, or dropped off at 630 Western Ave.
