Pershing County emergency crews responded to a pair of weekend incidents along I-80, including a successful pursuit of a hit-and-run suspect and a fast-moving fire involving a downed power line.

On Saturday, April 27, around 5:20 p.m., dispatch received a report of a hit-and-run near mile marker 125 on I-80. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark-colored Dodge Charger with damage to the front left side. With Nevada State Police delayed by 30 to 45 minutes, local deputies responded. By 5:55 p.m., Deputy 112 had located and stopped a matching vehicle near mile marker 83. NSP arrived shortly after and took the driver into custody. No injuries were reported.

The evening before, on April 26 at 7:56 p.m., dispatch received multiple 911 calls about a power pole on fire near mile marker 98, westbound I-80. Fire Chief Wilcox (Unit 501) and other responding units located the blaze and found a power line on the ground. Fire crews gained access by cutting a locked gate and quickly extinguished the fire within a minute. NV Energy was notified, and fire units cleared the scene by 8:30 p.m.
