Residents rolled up their sleeves on Saturday, April 27, for a community clean-up effort that brought together volunteers, city crews, and some creative spirit. While the weather was challenging, the event marked a major step forward in sprucing up Lovelock.
Behind the scenes, a lot of planning went into making the day happen. Crews had equipment ready to go, while final logistics on dumpster placement were being worked out. In a show of local initiative, volunteers took to the streets, knocking on doors to offer help hauling items, which was an effort many neighbors appreciated.
And what’s a clean-up day without a little fun? Enter Pershing Pete and Penelope—the newest rock residents of downtown. Crafted by local artist Brittney and introduced by Cathie Bryant, the painted rock mascots now sit proudly to encourage community pride. Pete was placed Sunday, with Penelope arriving the day before. Families are invited to stop by, paint a body rock on-site or at home, and return it to build out the colorful display.
“We just ask folks to be respectful and leave the heads intact,” Bryant said. “Let’s see how long and fabulous we can make them!”
