Lovelock swimmers competed against Yerington on Saturday at the city pool, with athletes continuing to build on skills developed since the season began.
Coach Chelsea Montes said the team got an early start this year with preseason practices held during the school year to help swimmers become comfortable in the water before competition season opened.
“We started this season during school with a little preseason so the kids could get used to the water,” Montes said. “They’ve been doing really great this year and signing up for more events. I’m excited to see the results and compare them to next week’s swim meet in Yerington.”
Montes said she has enjoyed coaching the swimmers and has seen steady improvement throughout the season.
“It’s been fun coaching them. I really enjoy being with them every day,” she said. “They’ve made a lot of improvement since the season opened, and they have a lot of room to excel at next week’s meet in Yerington.”
Pool Director Marti Nolan said the meet ran smoothly thanks to volunteers and staff.
“Everything went great,” Nolan said. “I had an amazing crew helping, and it couldn’t have gone more smoothly. We were done in record time, and our athletes did amazing.”
Approximately 45 Lovelock swimmers participated in the meet. The team will travel to Yerington on June 27 for its next competition.
