The March Madness Livestock Jackpot brought energy and opportunity to the Lovelock 4H building on March 28–29, 2026. Drawing youth exhibitors and families from across the region including Nevada, Oregon, California, Utah, Montana, Colorado and Idaho. Hosted by longtime Pershing County locals Eddie and KayCee Paredes and their children, the two-day jackpot show featured competitive classes, strong community support, and a clear mission: expand opportunities for local youth in livestock programs.
From cattle to swine, sheep to goats the show ring stayed busy as participants showcased months of hard work. Judges commended the quality of animals and the sportsmanship displayed throughout the weekend. For many exhibitors, the jackpot provided a rare chance to compete beyond the traditional county fair circuit while gaining valuable experience.
KayCee Paredes reflected on how the idea came to life,
“It all started with the thought of, how cool would it be to have a jackpot show in Lovelock!? Joking around with local friends, the brainstorming process evolved. We decided to give it a try.”
Besides the added show opportunity for the young showmen, she explained, “The benefits to the local 4H livestock club by funding prizes, building wash racks, raising funds for a new scale and other improvements!” Not to mention the support towards local businesses by bringing in the competitors.
Their vision translated into a successful first-year event, with proceeds and community backing already earmarked for improvements to local 4-H livestock facilities. Now onto their fourth year the volunteers, amazing sponsors, and families worked side by side to ensure the show ran smoothly. Show judges were Dakota David and Connor Brew all the way from Texas. Delicious food truck vendors were also in attendance.
With a strong turnout and positive feedback, organizers are optimistic that March Madness Jackpot will become a staple event, one that not only highlights quality livestock but also invests in the future of youth agriculture in Pershing County. Stay tuned for information on next year’s event and ways to support.
