Pershing County School District has received statewide recognition for its work supporting students academically, behaviorally, and socially through its Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) program.
The Nevada Association of Positive Behavior Supports recently honored two schools in the district for their implementation of MTSS, which is designed to provide different levels of support so students receive help when they need it.
Lovelock Elementary School earned the 2025 Nevada MTSS Diamond Implementation Award, the highest level of recognition given by the state. The award marks the school’s sixth consecutive year receiving Diamond status.
According to district officials, the recognition reflects strong systems in place to monitor student needs, consistent use of data to guide decisions, and programs designed to support the whole child.
The elementary school’s work is supported by its PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) team and leadership from Nancy Meissner, who works closely with Sarah Arnold, the district’s MTSS Coordinator for PBIS and behavior.
Pershing County High School was also recognized, receiving the Platinum Level Award for its expanding MTSS programs at the secondary level.
Across Nevada, schools are recognized at Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond levels depending on how effectively the systems are implemented and the results they demonstrate for students. Recognition for both the elementary school and high school highlights the district’s effort to build strong, consistent support systems for students across grade levels.
District staff were also involved in professional development and presentations at the annual Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) Conference.
At the conference, Sarah Arnold served as a panel speaker, while Hollie Harvey, MTSS Academic Coordinator, co-presented with Danielle McIntosh during a session titled “The Science of Learning and Reading: How Do Our Brains Actually Work?”
School officials say the recognitions reflect a continued commitment to making sure every student has the support they need to succeed.
