County Accepts DA Resignation, Appoints Interim Prosecutor

The Pershing County Commission unanimously accepted the resignation of Bryce Shields as district attorney and appointed Jack Bullock to serve as interim district attorney during a special meeting on January 2, 2026.

Bullock’s interim term is set for 60 days under state law, giving the commission time to recruit a permanent replacement. The term may be extended if a permanent district attorney is not selected within that window and the interim agrees to continue serving.

Commissioners also approved Bullock’s salary in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes, which require an interim district attorney to receive the same base pay as the outgoing DA, excluding any longevity pay. Commissioners noted that the law governs both the length of the interim appointment and the compensation structure, leaving little discretion at the local level.

“This gives us 60 days to find somebody new,” commissioners said during the meeting, adding that any extension would depend on both statutory authority and mutual agreement.

County officials thanked Bullock for stepping into the role and wished him well as he begins leading the Pershing County District Attorney’s Office. The commission is expected to continue or begin the search for a permanent district attorney during Bullock’s interim period.
