Community Steps Up to Support Frontier Coalition Food Drive

Community Steps Up to Support Frontier Coalition Food Drive

As grocery prices climb and more families feel the pinch, the Frontier Community Coalition’s Family Resource Center is seeing the community rise to meet the need. This season’s food drives and donations brought an outpouring of support from schools, businesses, nonprofits, and families across Pershing County, each contribution helping keep shelves stocked and doors open for neighbors who rely on the center’s weekly services.

The Coalition offered special thanks to Mrs. Murphy and the PCMS Leadership students, who organized an impressive schoolwide food drive that brought in a significant share of this month’s inventory. Students not only gathered donations but also helped sort and prepare items for distribution.

US Silica was also recognized for hosting a successful food drive of its own. The company’s ongoing partnership, staff said, strengthens the Coalition’s ability to meet growing demand throughout the year.

Local service organizations continue to play a vital role as well. Catholic Charities and the Pershing County Senior Center were acknowledged for their sustained collaboration in supporting essential services, from food distribution to emergency assistance for families and seniors.

Financial donations this season also made a meaningful difference. The Coalition expressed gratitude to Renown for a $1,000 contribution and LRE for a $1,500 gift, funds that go directly toward food resources and critical support for individuals and families experiencing hardship.

Community generosity didn’t stop there. Residents sent packages through Amazon to help restock pantry shelves, while Joe and Jamie St. Pierre and their family donated diapers and formula, items that are both expensive and essential for young families.

The Coalition also highlighted the ongoing partnership with the Northern Nevada Food Bank, which makes it possible for the Family Resource Center to remain open weekly and reliably supply staple food items.

“We are grateful for each of you and the role you play,” the Coalition staff said in a statement. “Together, we are making a difference.”

With winter approaching, staff say community support remains critical. But this season’s response shows what Pershing County has long been known for: when there’s a need, people show up.
